The Block 2023: Master Bedroom Reveal
- 17 Sep 2023

A retreat away from the rest of the home, the private sanctuary of the lucky home-owner, the Master Suite is one of the most important areas of a high-end home.
And with that in mind, the Blockheads went all out to create the perfect space, with spacious rooms featuring luxurious walk-in wardrobes, separate relaxation areas, reading nooks, make-up stations and more.
It was a tough week for the judges with so many beautiful options on offer, but now at the half-way point of the build, one team is starting to stand out and took things to the next level… … so who took out the win?
Steph and Gian
First place
29 points
Walking into Steph and Gian’s master wing, the first thing to hit the judges was the huge walk-in wardrobe and dressing area. With a huge marble-topped island, Hafele accessories, enough storage even for Shaynna, this screamed luxury.
“This wardrobe could be in a $20 million home,” Marty said… a room you used to get ready to go out and then didn’t want to leave!
But as impressed as they already were, the bedroom took their breath away. “This is HOT!” Shaynna said, admiring everything from the lighting plan to the neutral palette, the layout, styling and more. With only the bedside tables earning a frown (not big enough again, Darren said) this was a near perfect room.
Winners are grinners! Congratulations Steph and Gian on another win!

Kristy from House 2, confirmed in Steph's mind earlier in the week that beams were a good idea, certainly paid off for Steph adn Gian this week, taking home another win!
The bedroom complete with bouclé sofas and Escea Fireplace is a parents retreat that dreams are made of!
With only the bedside tables earning a frown (not big enough again, Darren said) this was a near perfect room. Well done Steph and Gian!
Kristy and Brett
Second place
27.5 points
“Simpler and more impactful” Darren said as he walked into Kristy and Brett’s bedroom, admiring the warm colour palette, the Venetian Plaster wall finish, a “sensational” bedhead and rug and even an ottoman for dressing.
It was a room that “gave you a hug” Marty kicked in, with Shaynna saying it was the best floor plan she had seen (so far).
Laying in the bed to watch the stars through the skylights above enjoying the warmth of the fireplace would be heaven, they agreed, with Marty saying the whole space was “well furnished, well designed and really well executed.” If only, Darren added, the bedside tables were bigger!

Laying under the stars with those Velux skylights would be heaven, they also feature a closure option for when you need a sleep in!
Kristy and Brett's master bedroom was huge, also featuring Escea fireplace and that beautiful art by Michelle Keighley available at The Block Shop.
Darren thought the bedsides were a little small in this space, but wowsers aren't they beautiful, alongside the incredible leather chair, all of which can be found at The Block Shop.
Kinsman wardrobes, where do we even start? Everytime I watch The Block I am so envious of these wardrobes, the form and function is always amazing!
Leah and Ash
Third place
23.5 points
“How good is that scalloped ceiling!” gushed Marty as he walked into House 2’s master suite. “And in a week!” Shaynna added… but the compliments soon ran out.
The curved bench seat at the window with floor to ceiling sheers and the Palm-Springs inspired artwork against a muted but consistent colour palette worked, the judges agreed, but some styling choices seemed there just to be eclectic and basic design points were missed.
More furniture was needed, the lack of shoe storage was a problem and overall the plan could have been tweaked to make better use of that stunning ceiling and natural light, they decided.

Leah and Ash are off and running with their eclectic style, this week didn't hit the mark for the judges unfortunately!

We are in love with all things Palm Springs here at The Block Shop, Chris Riley Art has just released an entire collection inspired by Palm Springs and we LOVE it!
The wardrobe looked amazing but the judges agreed the lack of shoe storage was a problem.
The make up nook and wallpaper were a quirky and clever touch to this space!
Eliza and Liberty
Fourth place
22.5 points
With double-glazed Aluplast windows and a fireplace to keep things warm Eliza and Liberty had created a cosy, beautiful room, but one that perhaps needed more.
Simple, perhaps to the point of too little happening, the judges were concerned the pair had been overwhelmed this week, pointing to incomplete paint, sparce styling and artworks that favoured one side of the room but not the other.
The layout worked well – particularly in the beautifully-appointed Kinsman wardrobes – and the colour choice was perfect for a bedroom, but with a definite sense of desperation and some choices that seemed to clash, more time should have been found.
Liberty's face says it all this week, the girls running short on time this week on what could have been a really great master bedroom.
Eliza and Liberty taking their signature colour scheme into the master this was a room full of greatness but time got away from the girls this week. Shop the products the girls room here.
The girls chose this artwork and shaped the room around it, featuring blue tones and burnt oranges this room had a real sense of warmth, and we don't just mean from the Escea Fireplace.
The judges agreed the layout worked well – particularly in the beautifully-appointed Kinsman wardrobes – and the colour choice was perfect for a bedroom.
Kyle and Leslie
Fifth place
21 points
With a consistent aesthetic and excellent craftsmanship, the judges agreed Kyle and Leslie’s Master Bedroom matches the house they have created… but worried about its practicality.
From the harsh texture in the recessed bedhead arch to the LED downlights directly overhead and artwork that reminded Darren of a chocolate shop, they were concerned style and been chosen over function.
No dedicated make-up and dressing station for example was a missed opportunity, Shaynna said. The couple need to think: “more about what is liveable and not simply Instagrammable,” Marty added.
It’s a room that will appeal to some, Shayna summed up, but going forward, more thought was needed.

One thing we know for sure here it that us, neutral palette lovers are adding this bedding to cart as we speak, Leslie used Eadie products, all of which are available at The Block Shop.
Leslie's artwork reminded Darren of a chocolate shop, we are not mad about that, we do love chocolate here! Art was from Iconiko and Rebecca Lam and can be shopped on The Block Shop.
As with most things this couple do their is always a sense of cohesion in their styling, and some more Bouclé to love from The Block Shop.
